Mixed Pennant lose to Eastlake at Cabramatta

Published on 17th February 2025 in Uncategorised

With the blue tees at Cabramatta set at their longest because of a concurrent Major Pennants match, it proved to be a tough day for the Monash lads. Some excellent play from the girls just wasn’t enough to tip the scales in Monash’s favour.

Lily Liu, new to the team, playing with President, Jeff Bresnahan, scored a very creditable square in the opening match against Eastlake. Our next three pairs all struggled to make headway. Pei Lim and Russell Pearse lost on the 18th, whilst Anne May and Glenn Hooker had their worst day of the tourney, losing on the 13th to a very strong pair. No luck either for Young Kim and Gareth Dawber, previously stars of the team, who fell 2&1.

Team Manager, Jacqui Dawber, intermittently supported by husband, John, fought hard all the way and, when their opponents failed to hole a slippery downhill putt, secured a final squared game in front of the whole team gathered round the 18th green.

Plenty of enjoyment, some new friends made and courses played in excellent condition, the squad beaten but unbowed is already looking forward to 2026. On a personal note, I’d like to thank everyone involved for their unwavering support and effort, and particularly for the beautiful bunch of flowers which you presented to me at the end of the day.
